The aim of this short course for non-native teachers of English is to provide effective literature-based lessons designed to engage learners and capture their interest of renowned Irish writers. Through Irish writers such as Yeats and Beckett, participants are given an understanding of how language is used to express an author's communicative purpose.Teachers are active participants in tasks that lead them to discover objective language features andarrive at their own well-supported interpretations of a text.This course teaches participants that their own understanding of a text is worthy of respect,if it is supported by evidence from the text. They are the springboard for creative communicative post-reading activities.
